Financial Literacy and Education Commission (FLEC)

Georgia Consortium for Personal Financial Literacy was honored to be the local host for FLEC hearing on February 25, 2014.

As part of America Saves Week, the Georgia Consortium for Personal Financial Literacy was proud to be the local host and partner with the Financial Literacy and Education Commission (FLEC) to present a public hearing on workplace financial education in Atlanta. This hearing, which was held Tuesday February 25th from 1:00 to 3:30 pm, featured remarks from Director Richard Cordray from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Assistant Secretary Phyllis Borzi from the Department of Labor (DOL), and Deputy Assistant Secretary Melissa Koide from the U.S. Department of the Treasury.


The hearing included two panels of experts in workplace financial education. The first panel discussed leveraging opportunities for financial education in the workplace and the second panel explored effective ways to engage employees.

“The Summit: Steps to Building Financial Literacy and Independence” was presented by The Center for Financial Independence and Innovation & The Georgia Consortium for Personal Financial Literacy in April of 2008 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.

The ultimate goal of this event was to support Georgia’s leaders in the financial and disability sectors in making informed and educated decisions about their own finances and to strengthen their ability to help those around them become better educated consumers. The Summit Program 04/03/2008
